picture me {im}perfectly: Just what I needed to hear

James 1:19 "My dear brothers,take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry."


Ever have those moments when you know what you just read or head was JUST for you. Where it was like an arrow to your ears and your heart. And nothing else said or done that day mattered because all you could focus on was what made your heart pound.

I had that moment on Saturday night. Our church has been studying the book of James. Pastor Andy was speaking and he read James 1:19. It was like the world stopped. It was just for me. He was speaking just to me. And frankly I don't know what else he said because this portion of scripture just kept swirling in my head. 

As you can imagine having 4 kids and a BUSY husband it can get a bit crazy around here. But  that is no excuse for the tone of voice I use when speaking to the hubs or the cheerio gang. I am notorious for saying to the cheerio gang (when the noise level is on def con 10 and they are trying to negotiate out of eating their broccoli) "I do not negotiate with terrorists." Or when I had enough of the fighting or the ultimate button push "you're not my best friend anymore" has been said 153 times that day, I will tell the tattler, "I don't want to hear it. Work it out yourself."

I guess I am not being a very good picture of Jesus to my children. I am sure glad that my God doesn't tell me this.

I am saddened I am not perfect. I am encouraged that my Jesus is! With his strength I can speak life into my kids  and not the angry mom voice. I am thankf that God gave me those words from James and that he forgives me when my words are not pleasing to HIM.


Psalm 19:14 "May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer."

My little {BIG} fear

So here's my little confession: I have big fears and little fears. But lately one particularly has been plaguing me { AGAIN }. It is the fear of being forgotten, more so being { FORGETTABLE } and indivisible. I don't know what starts it or triggers it, but it can be as simple as an email offering to volunteer for something than not hearing a reply. I guess the last trigger was a group wide calendar was sent out with {every one's} birthday on it except mine. I know that is wasn't done on purpose but my birthday is a sensitive subject to me. Its always been forgotten. Its right around Labor day and the first week of school. So in the busyness its often overlooked. Or in the case of 6th grade its not even written on the calendar. Mrs. Brotherton I think I know when my birthday is...but she still made me go to the Principal's office for arguing with her and I came back successfully with a note that I was indeed correct about knowing my birthday. serving with a grateful heart

1 Peter 4:10 "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms." This year my little gang of cheerios and I have been working on being intentional about serving. To be honest for a long time the excuses of having to many littles was beginning to wear thin. Now I have been looking for opportunities that my littles could easily accomplish. Yesterday, we attended a Lenten service at our church. It was a beautiful Prayer walk. We walked through stations, preparing our hearts for this season of Lent. It was a perfect activity for our family to do together. In the Lenten study package was The Names of God Bible reading challenge . I am really thrilled to focus in on the Names of God for this season. Preparing my heart for the Easter season.
